What is CAMHS?
CAMHS help children and young people up to 18 who are finding it hard to cope with everyday life because of difficult feelings, behaviour or relationships.
How CAMHS can help
- CAMHS provide flexible support to suit your needs
- Initially they will find out more about the difficulties you are having
- They will discuss the sort of treatment and support that is likely to help and agree a plan with you
- Sometimes a few sessions will be enough to get you back on track. Sometimes you may need to meet with CAMHS for longer
- Most importantly you will be fully involved and the plan agreed together will be reviewed regularly to make sure it is still helping
CAMHS can work with you in a range of different ways to suit your needs:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
- Family Therapy
- Psychotherapy
- Solution Focussed Practice
Who does CAMHS support?
There are no referral criteria for Buckinghamshire and Oxford CAMHS SPA. The service supports all children, young people, families, and professionals concerned about a young person’s emotional wellbeing, up to their 18th birthday. This includes self-referrals from young people aged 16 and over.
Any young person wanting to learn about CAMHS or worried about their mental health or wellbeing is welcome to reach out. The service will never turn away a young person asking for help - CAMHS will either engage them or guide them to the support they need elsewhere.
