Will Young becomes Shout's first patron
We’re delighted to announce musician, actor and mental health campaigner Will Young as our first ever patron, bringing with him incomparable expertise from the world of the creative arts.
The patronage follows a unique and innovative collaboration between Shout and Will’s Wellstock Foundation, a platform to bring mental health awareness to the fore. Last year this saw the launch of the For One Night Only (FONO) series of events, providing once in a lifetime experiences that money can’t buy, while fundraising for Shout. The initiative kicked off with intimate performances from Ed Sheeran and Eddie Izzard, raising vital funds for our digital support service.
Speaking about his patronage, Will said: “I’m so thrilled and excited to work with and represent Shout. From the second I got to know their work by organising the fundraising initiative 'Wellstock & FONO' I knew I wanted to become more involved. The work Shout does in helping young people throughout the UK is astounding using a text message service. I have seen them in real time save countless lives and it is my honour to be a part of this incredible charity.”
Victoria Hornby, CEO of Shout said: “We are absolutely delighted to have Will on board as our first ever Patron. Will’s passion for shining the spotlight on mental health and helping to break down barriers to seeking help will be crucial in helping us provide more people with the help they deserve.
Will’s support for our text service has already been incredible, with the launch of the innovative For One Night Only initiative. It has generated vital funding for Shout, helping us to support the 1,500 - 2,000 people in crisis who reach out to us every single day.
Will’s patronage of Shout will be invaluable in helping us continue to highlight and promote how the creative industries can support better mental health and to raise the profile of the Shout service. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have him as part of the team.”
Will’s patronage comes at the same time he launches his latest ‘Wellbeing Lab’ podcast series, where he is joined by mental health and wellbeing experts as they explore and spotlight different topics around mental health.
