Breathing exercises

Feeling stressed, anxious or panicked?

These tips and breathing exercises can help control your breathing. They can be done anywhere and will only take a few minutes to try.

What to do if you’re feeling anxious

  1. First think about what you do have control over, rather than things that you can’t do anything about. That will help you regain those feelings of control.
  2. If anxiety sets in, take a moment to breathe.
  3. A favourite technique we use at Shout 85258 is the four - seven - eight. That’s a deep breath through your nose and count to four, hold in for seven, then breath out through your nose or mouth to a count of eight. Repeat this a few times.
  4. And finally, talking through your worries with someone is helpful - whether it's over text or a call.

Don't feel that you have to face a problem alone. Text Shout to 85258 to start a conversation with a trained volunteer who will listen and support you.
