Bring your community together this Mental Health Awareness Week
Looking for ways to bring your community together while raising vital funds for Shout? Here are some ways to connect people, whether your activity is on or offline.
Being part of a supportive community can make a huge difference to our wellbeing, helping us feel connected and valued. Fundraising for Shout this Mental Health Awareness Week, 12 - 18 May, is a great way to celebrate your community and positively impact others.
1. Host a virtual or in person ‘Communi-tea’
For a small donation, bring friends or colleagues together over tea and cake. Create a safe space for starting conversations using our tips, or get in touch to let us know your plans and to find out how we can support you.
2. Community challenge
Encourage people to take on a collective challenge, such as walking or running a combined number of miles, cycling the distance between two cities, or climbing the equivalent height of a famous landmark. Participants can fundraise individually while working towards a shared goal. Explore Shout’s fundraising challenges, or come up with one of your own
3. Skill swap fundraiser
Host an event in your community where people offer their skills (such as conversational language lessons, photography tips or yoga sessions) in exchange for donations. This encourages group knowledge-sharing while raising money for a great cause.
4. Social quiz night
Get people together for a trivia night in a local pub, office or online, with teams competing for prizes. Include fun rounds alongside a section that raises awareness of mental health and the support available.
5. Walk and talk
Organise a community walk focused on mindfulness and mental wellbeing. Encourage participants to join you for a stroll through a local park or scenic route, pausing along the way for moments of reflection, gratitude or guided breathing exercises. People can take part for a small donation, and you could provide conversation prompts to encourage meaningful discussions about mental health. Find inspiration here.
