Volunteer for Shout from New Zealand

New Zealanders, we need your help! Shout Volunteers are essential to our service and at the heart of everything we do. They support people in the UK who are struggling to cope, helping them reach a calmer place.

You'll receive 25 hours of free in-depth mental health communication training and ongoing dedicated coaching so you can help others while developing invaluable skills for life.

Our New Zealand volunteers come online during the NZ daytime to help us provide round the clock support for people struggling to cope. They staff our 24/7 service, enabling us to keep talking to texters when it's the middle of the night for our UK volunteers and when other services are not available.

If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in and to join our wonderful community of volunteers - read on!

Having lived in the UK for a number of years and still having family and friends in the UK, it is a place still very close to my heart. Being able to support people in need at any time of the day has given me a huge sense of purpose. The community of volunteers and staff at Shout 85258 have been hugely welcoming and supportive, I feel proud to represent Shout.

Kirsty, New Zealand Shout Volunteer

New Zealand Shout Volunteers have the chance to:

  • Give 24/7 help to those in the UK who are struggling to cope at a time when most other means of support are not available.

  • Receive 25 hours of free training, gaining communication, active listening, and problem solving skills that are valued by employers and learning institutions.

  • Be a part of a pioneering team and supportive community.

  • Connect with both UK volunteers and other New Zealand volunteers.

  • Volunteer from the comfort of your own home, at flexible times that suit you.

  • Work with a dedicated Coach who'll support you during your journey.

What I love the most is the warm and caring community at Shout with other volunteers and Supervisors, and there's this sense of continuous growth and personal development.

Additional benefits of volunteering:

  • 95% of Shout Volunteers say that volunteering for Shout gives them a sense of accomplishment
  • You can volunteer during sociable hours. Our biggest motivation to welcome New Zealand volunteers is to support texters who need it during the night (UK time), which is of course day time in New Zealand! Demand increases during unsociable hours when many other support services are not available.
  • 91% of Shout Volunteers agree that the experience gave them skills that enriched their day-to-day lives.
