Cycling for our suicide prevention service
An incredible way to remember a friend who has been lost to suicide is to get together to do something you all loved to do, just like Keith’s friends did.
As keen cyclists, they organised the trip of a lifetime, cycling from London to Italy in memory of their friend. It’s something they’ll always remember, and they also raised vital funds for our life-saving text support service.
Keith’s friends had a goal of raising awareness of men’s mental health. The support Shout provides - which is free, confidential and 24/7 - is crucial and offers men an easier way to reach out when they feel like they can’t yet speak to anyone else. In fact, 55% of people who text the Shout service say they don’t have anyone else to talk to about the way they’re feeling.
Together, they raised a whopping £30,100, or the equivalent of 301 Shout conversations. They also took on an incredible personal challenge, ascending the equivalent of two Mount Everests during the 1,100 miles from London to Acqui Terme in Italy.
Love to cycle? Take on your own challenge for Shout
If you love to cycle, why not pick up a map with your friends or your family and pick a spot you want to get to. Decide when you’ll take on the challenge and set your fundraising target!
Or, if you’d like to join a pre-organised trip, you can with our partners at Choose a Challenge, who offer an incredible London to Paris fundraising cycle.
Whichever option you choose, you’ll be joining the Ride for Keith team in raising both awareness of accessible mental health support and vital funds that will help Shout be there for anyone who is struggling to cope.
