Notes to my younger self about exam results; lessons from our Shout Volunteers
Getting your exam results is a huge milestone in your life; it’s natural to be feeling overwhelmed or anxious about what the future holds.
While it’s important to take the time to reflect and notice your thoughts and feelings around exam results, it’s also important to remember that your grades don’t define who you are and that there is support available if you’d like to talk about your thoughts and the emotions you’re experiencing.
Sometimes hearing from people who have experienced something you’re going through can really help to make sense of your thoughts and feelings. No matter what you’re facing right now, there is always help and support available and you don’t have to make sense of it alone.
Our incredible community of Shout Volunteers have spent some time reflecting on what they would tell their younger selves about exam results. We hope it brings you comfort to know that you’re not alone in how you’re feeling, but that no matter what happens, there is always someone who can help.

Testimonials
“I'd tell myself to breathe and remind myself that anything I do now can't change the results. I'd tell myself that whatever the results are, I will be able to cope with them. Even if things feel bleak, there's always a solution.” - Shout Volunteer Gemma

“I'd say that there's no singular path to getting where you want to go! It may take more time, or you may face more barriers, but a lower grade doesn't spell the end of a journey- even if it might feel like that at the time, and you'll get there in the end.” - Shout Volunteer Lauren

“No matter what happens with the results, you have options. If you get what you need, well done. If you don’t, it is just a side step, not the end of your journey.” - Shout Volunteer Selena

“I would say to my younger self: you will still get a job and interviews even if your A-levels are not as good as you want them to be.” - Shout Volunteer Hannah

“I'd say to them what I told my daughters - the sun will still come up tomorrow no matter what happens with the exams. In the big scheme of life, they aren't very important.” - Shout Volunteer Stephen
