Shout and Headstock team up to support the music industry
Music and mental health social enterprise Headstock has partnered with Mental Health Innovations and Shout to provide dedicated mental health text support to anyone working in the music industry.
From today, anyone that is struggling to cope and needing to talk will be able to text the word ‘MUSIC’ to 85258 to receive free, confidential support, 24/7.
Shout’s team of highly trained volunteers will deliver in-the-moment support for people from all walks of the music industry, who are anxious, distressed or suicidal, with Shout’s qualified clinical support team on hand to provide expert supervision of conversations at any time of day or night.

Atheer Al-Salim Headstock FounderBacked by Courteeners’ frontman, Liam Fray and a host of industry organisations and figureheads, the partnership has been launched as a direct response to the spiralling mental health crisis facing the music industry - a crisis compounded by the global pandemic and subsequent cost-of living crisis.
Funded by Amazon Music, it's also backed by signposting partners Music Minds Matter and Music Support, industry body Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) and ticketing site Skiddle.

According to research, 73% of independent musicians struggle with mental illness (Record Union) while people working in the industry are three times more likely to suffer from clinical depression compared to the general population (University of Westminster research on behalf of Help Musicians).
The Headstock and Shout partnership enhances support already available across the industry and is likely to reach new audiences who have not sought help elsewhere, due to Shout's discreet, text-based nature.
